The SEAG Entrance Assessment is used by grammar schools in Northern Ireland as part of their Year 8 admissions criteria. It is taken by pupils in Primary 7 who are transferring to post-primary school and whose parents may be considering a grammar school place.
For the 2026 SEAG Entrance Assessment, the key dates are:
- Registration opens: Monday 18th May 2026
- Registration closes: Friday 18th September 2026 at 11:59pm
- Pupil Cards available: Friday 9th October 2026
- Assessment Paper 1: Saturday 14th November 2026
- Assessment Paper 2: Saturday 21st November 2026
- SEAG outcomes released: Saturday 23rd January 2027
After results are released, parents then apply for post-primary school places through the Education Authority’s online application process.
It is important to remember that:
- A SEAG outcome does not automatically secure a place at a grammar school.
- Parents must still complete the post-primary application.
- School preferences should be listed carefully.
- Each school applies its own admissions criteria when allocating places.
